Mikes Marina Review: Sent by Charles Case,
Fishing on January 18th 2011 on the 38ft Bertram
Our group has been descending on the tropical paradise of Punta Cana for a couple of years now. For the second year in a row we have used Mikes Marina for our deep sea fishing charter. First off their prices are better than the Hotels and secondly the level of service on both our charters was fantastic.
Our total catch for the two trips is 11 Dorado, 6 last year and 5 this year. The fish we caught this year were massive. At one time during our excursion 4 of the 5 fishing rods were engaged. Very exciting!
The weather was a little against us this year as the morning swells were quite high and proved to be a little too rough for some of our group. Sitting up top seemed to help some. The fishing starts quite quickly almost as soon as we pass the reef, which is about 3 miles out. Within 20 to 30 minutes and Mario had our lines in and baited.
On both occasions we brought a fish back to our resort, which was cooked and then rapidly devoured. There is nothing in the world that is much better then extremely fresh Dorado/MahiMahi. Keep in mind you may want to enquire at your resort before you go to see if they will prepare the fish for you. We have lucked out both years. The Majestic and Excellence both cooked our catch nicely but the edge goes to Excellence. Also pack a little ice from the cooler to keep your catch as fresh as possible.
With any luck we will be back in Punta Cana in 2012 and will call on Mike and team for another great day.
This year
Capitan Jose Manuel Mota-Bol AKA Manuel: AWESOME. Very experienced and very pleasant spent a lot of time with our party explaining how he’s able to find the fish and navigating through some exciting swells.
Mate Carlos Alberto Feliz-Matos AKA Mario : Fantastic.always busy checking the lines and re-baiting frequently, and never too shy to offer up a water or drink.
Last year
Luis Alberto Caridad – One of the main reasons we went back to mikes marina, this year. Luis was like a machine and never stopped for the entire ˝ day trip.
